Protect the Beach drive 18 Dec 2009
On Friday 18th December 2009 we are holding a “Protect the Beach Drive” and invite you all to come and help. We will be cutting bush into manageable sections, dragging it onto the beach and anchoring it into the sand to form windbreaks. Local residents have inserted these wind breaks in certain areas and they are working very well. Young and Old are invited to join. We need Teams of bush cutters, Teams of Boat Transporters (you need a boat) Teams of bush draggers and Teams of bush planters. We will arrange for cut bush to be dropped at the various spots. We will be meeting at Main Beach between 8.30 and 9am and will working on 1. Main Beach 2. George Road, 3. Hobie Beach (Aldabara Run) 4. Shore Road (near the river mouth) and you will be given your instructions from there. You will need, a panga, a saw, some rope, a hat, sun block and some comfy old shoes. The Boat Transporters Team will meet at Shore Road to transport bush from shore road to the spit. If you are physically unable to drag bush around, you might like to set up a watering hole to quench the workers thirst. This is our opportunity of pulling together as a whole community and doing something worthwhile. We are all bound to have a lot of fun and make new friends while we are about it. The tide should allow us to work from 9am to 12 noon. Anyone having bush cleared on their property, please be in touch with us so that we can arrange for the cut bush to be dropped at these various areas. Call Paddy 042 294 1689 or 082 426 5060.
